Best Wishes for the Year Of Sheep 2015

HAPPY NEW YEAR DUDES AND DUDETTES!!

New Year Fireworks @Sydney Harbour Bridge (swiped off the internet ‘cos I liked it so much!)

It’s 2015.  And this is my first blog post for 2015… I have more drafts in my folder than actual blog posts, needless to say,  I need to speed up!! 😵

I have been busy with my art investment courses since the last half of 2014 (and my vigour in bodybuilding towards a competition means that I am exhausted most evenings!😜).  AnywaZ, if you have already broken your new year’s resolution, there’s another new year coming up – the Lunar New Year, coming up on February 19 – celebrated by 1.35B Chinese in the world (omitting people of Chinese origins living outside of China) and no doubt mine will be to write and post more often!

As to whether my Chinese New Year Predictions 2014 (here), came true… I shall reveal in due course after Chinese New Year, since talking about it before the conclusion of 2014 might change my smooth-sailing now. 😇

SO!!

Without further ado, lets’s take a walk around the malls I frequent often in Hong Kong.

A  flock of sheeps spun from yarn under a woollen-balls tree and clouds…at Landmark.  Bright colors really liven up the atrium of the mall! 😎

Welcoming the Year of Horses in the Malls

恭禧發財!!

Happy Chinese New Year!  The Year of the Horse has finally arrived!  If don’t know that that 2014 is the Year of the Horse – and you live outside Asia, you are excused but for those of you who live in Asia, what’s your excuse?!  Don’t you go out at all?  Why – the malls are all decked out in horsie decorations!  Here’s some malls that I frequented.

Elements Mall @ Kowloon Station:  A horse head made up of tiny minions of horses.  The sponsor is… (no brainer)… Hong Kong Jockey Club!

My all-time favourite for mall decorations is Landmark @ Central.  Every Chinese New Year, the atrium of the mall will be transformed into a floral extravaganza welcoming the in-coming zodiac of the new year.  This year, we have floral horses suspended in the air and horses let loose on a pictureque Chinese pasture complete with waterfalls, junk and Chinese houses.

The One @ Tsim Sha Tsui:  Albeit tacky and simplistic, this is sponsored by a clothing company.  All the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac are presented riding a horse.

Rilakkuma Wonderland Exhibition @ The One, TST, Hong Kong

You know Hong Kong’s moniker as the ‘City that never sleeps‘, but what if you got up early and have nothing to do? You can’t hit the shops just yet because the shops here open pretty late, around 11am! So, this is what I do – I go watch a movie! Early shows here starts at 9am and is cheap at HK$45 per person (or HK$10 for Seniors, equivalent to A$2!) Since I live in Kowloon, Tsim Sha Tsui is the most convent place for me to catch a movie, and I usually go to Broadway Circuit Cinema at The One.

Currently there is a Rilakkuma Exhibition happening in the mall, with more than 20 pieces of large Rilakkuma figurines and over 100 mini-Rilakkumas dotted around the mall in celebrating the 10th anniversary of Rilakkuma. Check out the 10-feet inflatable Rilakkuma resting comfortably on the window sill – a tiring journey mind you, for a first-timer in Hong Kong from Tokyo – so, peeps, head on over to say a big ‘Hello’ to giant inflatable Rilakkuma!

As with any ‘celebration’, there is ALWAYS a promotion a la sales gimmick!  What did I get  for spending some $$$ at The One – a hot water bottle inserted in a cute cover!  No doubt will keep me warm this winter!

Window Display: Model Kits @ Harvey Nichols Pacific Place, Admiralty, Hong Kong

Date:  August 2013

In the midst of the Hong Kong summer, straddling between the glaring sunlight and buckets of typhoon rainfalls,  where else can the Chica go to avoid melting make-ups and ruined shoes?  Why, to the shopping malls of course!  She is after all in The Kong aka shopping paradise.

Never mind that the end of summer is nigh.   Summer Sale is over and the Fall/Winter 2013 is just debuting.  In a word – nothing wearable to buy just yet, so let’s go window shopping!

In this post I show you the photos I took from the Harvey Nichols windows at Pacific Place. The theme changes each season – pictures from earlier this year here.  This season’s theme is  based on toy model kits, and I am especially familiar with Tamiya Military Model Kits that my Bro was so fanatic about, spending hours in his boyhood days glueing pieces of plastics together.

Now, each window has a different theme and I had a fantastic time checking out the little accessories that made these windows very interesting – collection wise, the clothes did not attract me .  Nevertheless, let’s enjoy the creativity of visual merchandising team shall we?

To kick off… and of course,  the central window is that of the Knightsbridge Underground Station, where the Harvey Nichols London is.

My favourite among the windows is the boudoir.  I can just imagine myself in the pink floating chiffon number surrounded by bubbles and bottles of sweet smelling scents,  getting ready for a relaxing soak in in the huge marble bathtub with gold tapwares.  A perfect way to end a summer’s day, agree?
